Meditation is the BEST tool to get clarity.
Yes, I am going out on a limb, but thousands of years of practice kinda support this truth.
So, if meditation is the best, and it’s free and available to anyone and everyone, why don’t more people use it?
Good question.
Taking my own history into account, I would say there is a perception that meditation is hard to do. I know I struggled with my ever active thought process.
But I think the real stopper is D-I-S-C-I-P-L-I-N-E. Oy, what a word.
That same discipline that stops us from holding to our New Year’s resolutions of exercise and weight control.
Did you ever ask yourself, “Why”? “Why do we not honor what is best for our bodies? Why do we readily indulge in life’s distractions rather than do what is good for us? Why do we avoid discipline?”
I think it’s because as entities we are naturally inclined to do what feels good, and sometimes (often) discipline takes work – at least for the first 21 days before it becomes a habit.
What I am finding with meditation is that either I have a much more settled mind or I have finally found a form that works for me.
You see, I have tried different techniques in the past – Vipassana, for one. That one was tough for me.
Never learned TM – maybe that would have worked.
But with Amma’s (Sri Karunamayi) instruction I have found a technique that really works for me, and now even meditating for just a short time period really makes me FEEL GOOD and my mind is clear. I am beginning to form a habit.
And that is a very good thing.
Now, as I am inclined to do, I have to throw a monkey wrench into this discourse. Yes, this is a reflection of how my mind works.
I have used the Holosync program in the past, stopped for a year, and now I am using it again, too. Holosync is a scientifically proven audio program that uses brain wave technology to place you into deep meditation – effortlessly. It’s marketed as the lazy way to meditate. It basically trains and expands your brain capacity. Pretty cool, eh?
So why did I stop?
That dirty word again – D-I-S-C-I-P-L-I-N-E. That, and I was having logistical difficulties.
But I digress.
So perhaps after “training my brain” for a year I am simply better able to go into a meditative state?
Perhaps, but I do like Amma’s technique, too, as it suits me better.
Anyway, the lesson here is to find what works for you and stick with it for at least a few weeks to see if it’s not just your ego being threatened and thwarting your attempts at self enlightenment, or you feel the need to try something else that works better.
D-I-S-C-I-P-L-I-N-E AND D-I-S-C-O-V-E-R-Y.
There are plenty of stories of people who take to meditation their very first time like a duck to water, too.
Esther Hicks, for one.
There are many, many resources for learning various forms of meditation. Google it, read a book, go to a religious institution. Buy Holosync, or then there is Pat O’Bryan’s and Joe Vitale’s Clearing Audios. I have never used them since I have plenty of Holosync stuff, but I trust those guys to put out a good product and they have received good reviews.
Now you have no excuse! Of course you never did, anyway. But I probably haven’t said enough to really motivate you to try meditation once again, yet.
So let me enlighten you….
I feel great! I am happy and cheerful! Events and personality quirks are not bothering me. I feel balanced. I feel productive. I feel loving.
I AM peaceful.
I AM clear.
Hi Oceana–
The picture of the Chakras are beautiful to behold!!!
I just restarted my Kriya Yoga practice (as taught by Paramahandsa Yogananda). WOW!! Talk about Transcending and Transforming!!
Had a Z-Point session last night–Very Powerfully meditative, as well!!
Discipline AND Resistance, I would add, to why sometimes meditation becomes impossible to do.
But I’m on it now!!!
LOL!!

I am glad you are enjoying your meditation! I think another eason some people do not keep up their practice is that meditation is far more than blissing out. It is also for the times when the feelings that come along are strong and disturbing. learning how to sit peacefully with our own turmoil also takes discipline, as you put it, or perhaps more kindly, patience.
